Have you wanted to explore the World of Warcraft in Minecraft? Very soon, you may be able to.
Minecraft builder Vale Yard was approached a while back by Blizzard to build different regions of the popular World of Warcraft MMORPG, and recently he took to Reddit and YouTube to show off his stellar work.
This makes some of my large build projects in the past look like child’s play, and rightly so: Vale Yard says these two cities took months to complete and a painstaking amount of detail.
But don’t just take my word for it. Two timelapse videos were released on October 29th showing off his work on Stormwind and Orgrimmar, two major cities in the game, and earlier in the month two live streams were hosted showing the creative processes involved while answering audience questions about how to pull off a project of this size. All of which you can watch below.
Large-scale builds in Minecraft come with their own unique challenges and approaches that aspiring builders should take note of. While research, planning, and lots of patience should be used in most builds, epic builds like this one need an even higher degree of each. It doesn’t hurt to be intimately familiar with the tools (like World Edit or VoxelSniper) and block palettes that you’ll be building with, either, which takes nothing short of many hours of practice to gain a solid handle on.
If you’re interested in exploring these builds, there’s hope that you may be able to some day. Vale Yard said when asked if he would release a world download, on Reddit, “Really depends on if the blizzard reps I’m working with allow that.” Here’s to hoping!
So, are you up for a battle on the side of the Alliance, or the Horde? Leave your comment below with your thoughts on this monstrous build, or share links to other creators that have inspired you. As for me, I’m FOR THE HORDE, BABY!!!
