As of just a few hours ago, OptiFine, the beloved tool for optimizing Minecraft and installing shaders (like you can see in the image above), released a preview version of their software built for Java Edition 1.14.2.
If you are unfamiliar with what OptiFine is, but you play in Java, allow the official description of the mod to tell you why you should absolutely consider downloading and installing this.
“This mod adds support for HD textures and a lot of options for better looks and performance. Doubling the FPS is common.“
With this new preview version of OptiFine now available for brave testers to try out, the mod can now be installed in Java 1.14.2, with some caveats.
First, some optimizations and features in OptiFine have not yet been updated to work with the latest version of Minecraft. While shaders and most of the important options seem to work just fine in our initial round of tests, the changelog gives a warning that this version “may crash”.

If that doesn’t scare you, though, then head over to the OptiFine website at the button below (which is the only place you should download this mod from), and click the “Preview Versions” link at the top of the Downloads page.
For those of you who aren’t the type to go try every new version of great software because of risks of crashing your game, then it’s best to hold off for a little while longer until a fully supported release is available. We’ll let you know when it is.
Oh, and don’t forget about reporting any problems you run into at the OptiFine issue tracker. You’re an early tester, after all, and every report of bugs you send in will help the team get that final release polished a little sooner.
