When we first shared that Minecraft Earth was coming as a brand new Augmented Reality game, we had no idea that there would be demos shared so soon. With the video clip below, though, we get exactly that.
At Apple’s WWDC Event in San Jose, we got our very first real look at Minecraft Earth gameplay, and it looks REALLY COOL. It is much more immersive than what we first imagined, allowing players to build and interact with the world, even fighting mobs and triggering redstone circuits or TNT explosions, with your friends.
The game seems to recognize the physical surroundings and people in the frame, too, even so far as noticing when another player raises both of their hands and syncing their wave with the wave of their character in the game.
This game is not just to be played on a small scale. When the small platform was dropped and then raised again to become a life-sized Minecraft world, we were genuinely surprised. As Lydia Winters, Chief Brand Officer at Mojang was planted firmly in the augmented reality world and interacted with life-sized levers and chickens, narrowly avoiding following into a cave that appeared next to her, there was a thought that this could bring fear and excitement back into the game for many veterans.

To put it simply, Minecraft Earth looks like it’s going to be a really, truly amazing experience for many players, and that’s not exaggerating. We’re excited to see the game working so well, even in development phase, and we can’t wait to get our hands on it ourselves.
Note: There is no word yet on when Minecraft Earth will be released out of development. As soon as we find out, we’ll let you know here. Learn more about Minecraft Earth on the Official Minecraft Website.
